eProgramming at the Sam L. Cohen Children’s Library
The Youth Services Staff have been hard at work to bring you and your little ones some programming in the comfort of your own home! Check out our programs below.
Music & Storytelling
Join the Youth Services staff as they sing songs, recite rhymes, and tell stories that are often featured in our weekly storytimes. We encourage families to rewatch or repeat songs and rhymes from the video throughout the week to help little ones become familiar with the sounds and words. Our Word of the Week is also featured in these videos. Find a recent video below! A playlist all of our Music & Storytelling videos can be found here. All our Youth Services Staff–Mary, Sarah Mari, Carrie, Cindy, Michele, Julia, and Hannah–have unique styles, so be sure to check out everyone’s videos. We also have created a playlist of 36 different songs and stories in their own videos if you have a favorite or are short on time. The Storytime Collection can be found here.
Learning with PPL
The Youth Services Staff know all kinds of cool information! Join us with archived videos on lots of different topics. Sometimes these videos will use books and other resources from our collection. Other times, we will show you how to make or do something! Check out a recent below or the whole playlist here. There is also a list at the bottom of this page with many of the topics we have covered so far.
Read Alouds
If you’re looking for something a little longer than our Music & Storytelling programs, join us for Read Alouds, where members of the Youth Services Staff will be reading different books. Sometimes these will be a few picture books, a short chapter book, or a longer novel. Everyone can find something to listen to! Recently, Cindy read Aven Green, Sleuthing Machone. Check out the first part below or head to the playlist to catch the latest! There is also a list at the bottom of this page with many of the books we have covered so far.
Spanish Storytime
Fans of our typical Spanish Storytime will be thrilled to see that Lisa was able to join us for several storytimes this spring! Conducted almost entirely in Spanish, these fun storytimes are easy to follow for little ones and caregivers, no matter your comfort with the language. Check out a recent video below or head to the playlist to catch them all!
French Songs and Stories
One of the members of our children’s team was also able to help us out with a few songs in French! Find Julia below with Le Hoogie Boogie (Hokey Pokey in French/en français).
Month-Long Celebrations
So many wonderful people throughout history have done really cool things. However, you may not have heard about them, or not know very much about them, because your school or tv and movies haven’t shown you their story very often, or ever! Fixing this is one of the purposes of celebrations like Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Here at PPL, we have so many wonderful picture book biographies that we were able to use to celebrate these months and communities. Be sure to check out the playlists for Black History Month and Women’s History Month to be introduced to some wonderful people you may never have heard of.
