eBooks for Windows, Mac, and e-Ink Devices

Download popular eBooks and eAudiobooks for free to your computer, Nook, or other e-ink device.

Because of current Amazon restrictions, the Amazon App and e-ink devices (Paperwhite, Touch, etc.) are not compatible with CloudLibrary.

Getting Started

To access CloudLibrary, follow these instructions for downloading books to your computer or eReader. You can also watch a video.

In order to read books on your computer or eReader, you will need to download Adobe Digital Editions. This is a free program.

Once the book is downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions, plug your eReader into the USB port of your computer to complete the transfer. You can find specific instructions for your eReader through the Kobo or Nook websites.

EBSCOhost eBook Collection

Browse over 7,000 eBooks on a variety of topics, especially nonfiction. These books are always available and can be downloaded to your device. This resource is available through the Digital Maine Library, and is free to use anywhere within Maine.

Project Gutenberg provides free access to eBooks where U.S. copyright has expired. Find many of the most popular classics and download them to your device.

Open Library

Open Library’s mission is to create a record for every book published. Not every book listed is available as an eBook but many older classic works are.

Find free audiobooks, including classics and other titles that are no longer copywritten.

Loyal Books also offers access to free popular classics, but does so in a way that is easy to browse.
