Discover Maine with our DiscoverME adventure backpack kits for birding, hiking, and stargazing, and with handheld GPS units so you never get lost!  

DiscoverME Adventure Backpacks
Each kit includes equipment and books, stored in a quality waterproof backpack. In the birding backpack you will find binoculars and a bird guide. In the stargazing backpack, stargazing binoculars, star charts, and a blanket for more comfortable gazing. And in the hiking backpack you will find a hiking guide, maps, and now a handheld GPS unit so you can navigate, geocache, or record your journey for download to your favorite fitness tracking app.

GPS
PPL now offers two handheld GPS devices for hiking, backpacking, geocaching, wayfinding, or just finding out how far you go (and how much altitude you gain, and the speed at which you travel) on your daily dog walk!   

One of the units circulates on its own, the other has been added to our DiscoverME hiking backpack kit, which also includes a hiking guide, emergency whistle, and more useful supplies, all housed in a weatherproof backpack so all you have to do is throw in a water bottle and some snacks and seek your next adventure!

The backpack kits and GPS circulate for one week at a time, with renewals allowed if no one else is waiting to borrow them. Stop by the Downtown Library Reference Desk or the Riverton branch (stargazing backpack only) to borrow a backpack or a GPS and have an adventure!
