Mergent/Moody's Online offers financial information on more than 10,000 publicly held corporations, plus annual reports, historical data, equity reports, and more.  Available from home or office, enter your 14 digit PPL barcode.

 

Reference USA  Now includes Residential and Business information. Look up directory information on businesses or residences across the country.  Narrow a search by criteria such as number of employees and sales. Available from home or office, enter your 14 digit PPL card number.

Learn a language

Pimsleur Language Programs are available for download through NetLibrary.  Register for a free account in the library, then download to your Windows computer or compatible MP3 device (must be Windows Media PlaysForSure). 

 

The BBC offers a free language learning site at http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages.
Mango Languages offers free online language courses (there is a fee for downloading).

 

Download audiobooks 

Download audiobooks or view eBooks online with NetLibrary.  Choose from nearly 2,000 popular fiction and nonfiction titles. To register for an account (you must be in the library), click here. You must have a Windows PC.  The format is not compatible with Macs or iPods.  MP3 players must be Windows Media PlaysForSure compatible.

Auto and Small Engine Repair 

Auto Repair Reference Center offers detailed information on auto repair and maintenance, including wiring diagrams.  Available from home for PPL patrons - Log in with your 14 digit library card number.

 

Small Engine Repair Reference Center has repair information for lawnmowers, water craft, ATVs, motorcycles, tractors, snowmobiles and more.

Learn A Test

Learn a Test helps you study and practice for exams such as ASVAB, Civil Service, SAT,  U.S. Citizenship and more.  Set up a user name and password and return to the test at any time.  Available from home for PPL patrons.  Register for an account using your 14 digit library card number as your user name. Learn a Test now includes E-Books, study guides for some common tests.

 

Research Maine News

The Maine News Index Online includes abstracts and citations for articles from Portland and Maine periodicals which Portland Public Library's Portland Room staff have compiled since 1993.

 

Maine Newsstand (via MARVEL) offers indexing for the Portland Press Herald (from 1995), the Bangor Daily News and other Maine newspapers.  Full text is available for most articles.
