of Readers Librarian
The Portland Public Library is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and experienced
City of Readers Librarian to promote the activity of reading in the City of Portland, and to provide reference and information services to the public. Working with and leading the City of
Readers Team, this person will collaborate with staff and community partners to provide broad collection development, programming and outreach. As a vital part of Research and Information Services, this person also provides reference services to the public.
Required skills and abilities: graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree from an accredited library school, or equivalent professional training and experience. Highly developed leadership and communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team; knowledge of fiction, popular non-fiction, books and authors; passion for reading and literature; positive, creative and energetic work style; demonstrated interest in all aspects of the world and general knowledge of this culture; demonstrated success in working with and/or knowledge of people of other cultural backgrounds; strong service orientation, demeanor and commitment to provide a high level of service to a diverse public; knowledgeable of information technology trends and previous experience using electronic resources; ability to speak a second language other than English (helpful if one of Portland’s ‘core’ languages).
