Portland Public Library's renovation has you and the planet in mind!

Designed to LEED Silver Standards, the renovation will incorporate green design elements and features to lessen the Library's energy consumption and environmental impact.  LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council that provides standards for environmentally sustainable construction

Our plan includes the following:

  • To install mechanicals to maximize energy efficiencies

  • To meet indoor environment quality standards, including ventilation and carbon dioxide monitoring

  • To create an urban rooftop landscape to reduce stormwater runoff and "heat island effect"

  • No ozone-depleting refrigerants in air conditioning

  • No halon gases in fire suppression system

  • To install new systems to monitor HVAC, water usage, and energy performance

  • To recycle more than 75% of construction and demolition waste

  • To use a significant amount of recycled material in construction

  • To use a minimum of 20% of building products manufactured within 500 miles of Portland

  • To install carpet materials that emit low amounts of airborne contaminants
